Sarah & Dan are the perfect match. Their fall wedding at The Atlantis Ballroom in Toms River is up there with with my favorite weddings I’ve had the privilege to photograph. It was the perfect fairytale fall wedding. Deep maroons, navy touches, lace, and last, but certainly not least, Taco Bell!
I arrived to Sarah’s mother’s house for bride prep & immediately started getting details of her beautiful bouquet courtesy of Bayville Florists. One of the most unique things that Sarah did was have a first look for the bridesmaids; as they hadn’t seen her dress prior. This may have been my favorite part. As soon as Sarah walked out, fully made up and in her dress, I don’t think I’ve seen a group of women break into tears of happiness so quickly. In all my years of photographing weddings, I’ve never seen a bride do a first look with her bridesmaids and I have to admit, it was such a wholesome and fun idea. I’m also pretty positive the photos I captured of their reactions was well worth the wait for the bridesmaids.
Seriously ladies, consider this an option even if your friends hate you for a bit by not showing them the dress…that’ll disappear as soon as they lay eyes on you. But I won’t tell you how to live your life. I’m just saying it was fun, ya know?
Fun Fact 1: Sarah and I met at Church when we were young! So this wedding was very special.
I’ve known Sarah for quite a while and we met in the church when I was in my early teenage years. I was truly honored that her and Dan chose me as their photographer. Sarah and Dan got married at the same exact church that we had initially met at all those years ago. Double Trouble State Park isn’t a far drive from the church, so we headed over there to capture some absolutely stunning outdoor photos of the entire bridal party. The dark blue tuxedos, the crimson bridesmaids dresses and Sarah’s stunning white dress was the perfect foreground (and offset) for the more rustic aesthetic of Double Trouble. So yeah, needless to say, it was the perfect location.
Fun Fact: Sarah & Dan got engaged at Taco Bell.
Ok, so long story short, when I found that out, I had already decided I was going to pick up their favorite Taco Bell order on my way to the reception. Was it a little strange for me to do photos of a couple eating Taco Bell on their wedding day? Yes. Was it absolutely worth it and some of the funniest and most endearing photos I’ve taken? Also yes. (Did I mention the bridesmaids ordered McDonalds during bridal prep? Because they definitely did and it was glorious and you can see some of those photos down below. Like…who wouldn’t want a chicken nuggets cheers on their wedding day?) Well, vegans and vegetarians, I guess. But I digress.
Their reception was such a blast. The dance floor was packed for pretty much the entire night and Sarah’s sister (the maid of honor) made an incredibly moving toast. Everybody involved in this wedding, especially Sarah and Dan were so easy to work with and didn’t seem stressed in the slightest.
To sum it up…
I feel like what I’m really trying to get across is how could you go wrong with Taco Bell photos and then directly into a party celebrating a brand new marriage with two people who clearly love each other more than anything? That’s rhetorical…because you can’t go wrong with that.
